Schemes or ambushes. It is the word the Reina-Valera uses where the English says "the schemes of the devil": traps laid in secret, which is exactly the picture the Greek paints.
The passage goes on to name the belt of truth (la verdad), the breastplate of righteousness (la justicia), the shield of faith (el escudo de la fe), the helmet of salvation (la salud), and the sword of the Spirit (la espada del Espíritu), which is the word of God.
